We close our news for today with some news from the softball diamond.
The Worth Cup in Hemet, CA, wrapped up yesterday, and a local team with two Mount Si freshmen closed out the event in a big way, with three wins.
The U-16 Northwest Bullets Zacher team, from Issaquah and which includes soon-to-be Wildcat players Maddy Trout and C.J. Howatson, beat three California teams after a tough start on Saturday. Trout’s big effort came in the nightcap, a 10-4 win for Zacher over the Strike Force team. Trout, from North Bend, had two hits, a run scored and three more runs batted in. She also had a hit and a run for the Bullets team in a 10-7 win over the Next Level team. Howatson scored two runs for Zacher in that game, and also scored a run in the opener yesterday, a 9-2 Bullets win over the USA Gold team. The 3-0 finish enabled them to win their playoff bracket and finish 34th overall in the event, out of 42 teams.
On top of the success on the field, the team also showed off their community spirit with a display of Seahawks pride. The Bullets team had their picture taken with coaches wearing Russell Wilson jerseys, and a number of players, including Trout and Howatson, holding flags. That photo is above.
Meanwhile, in U-18 action, the Washington Ladyhawks Miller team, from Puyallup and with MSHS senior Celine Fowler, split a pair of games in playoff action and finished fifth overall despite a 1-4 overall record in the event.
