Mount Si High School’s baseball team this morning has to feel real good about themselves and their chances moving forward. They took two weeks of frustration with all of those tough losses they had in that stretch out on somebody with the bats in last night’s Kingco 4A title game, and took home the trophy in convincing fashion.
Mount Si scored five runs in the third inning to break things open, then let pitcher Colin Anderson do the rest; the senior fired six innings of one-hit baseball to help the Wildcats blast Woodinville 9-2 in the conference championship clash at Bellevue’s Bannerwood Park.
Harrison D’Anna led the way, going 3-4 with a run scored and two RBI’s; his single in the first with runners on base kicked off the Mount Si onslaught, scoring Carson Corra and Mason Marenco. The Wildcats ultimately scored three runs in that opening frame, then really poured it on in the third with those five runs. The key hits in that frame were two-RBI hits, a single from Matt Dolewski that scored Reid Lutz and Cody Perrine, and a double from Justin Lutz that scored Marenco and Jimmy Boyce.
Dolewski finished the game 2-4 with two runs scored and two RBI’s, while Marenco went 2-5 with two runs scored and an RBI aiding scarlet and gray. He tripled in the sixth to score Dolewski with the final run of the contest for the Wildcats.
Anderson finished allowing one run on one hit in those six innings, walking none and striking out three in arguably his best outing of the season to move to 4-3 on the year.
Mount Si is now off until May 21, when they play in the WIAA state 4A regionals in Puyallup against an opponent to be determined.
Cedarcrest punches state berth
The Red Wolves took care of Blaine last night 4-1 in the Northwest 2A District playoff semifinals up in Anacortes, advancing Cedarcrest to the district finals Saturday and also punching a state berth, their second straight.
Blaine Wagner and Jake Jewell both went 2-3 with a run scored and RBI each for Cedarcrest, and Jewell pitched a complete game gem, allowing a run on just three hits, striking out five. Cody Banks also added two hits to help CHS.

Kingco 3A Championship-Wikel, Falco lift LW to title in close one: Jake Wikel’s fourth-inning solo homer provided the offense, and Paul Falco’s pitching did the rest, as he fired a complete game three-hitter, helping Lake Washington shut out Mercer Island 1-0 at Bannerwood last night to win the Kingco 3A title. The Kangs now advance to state while MI meets Juanita tomorrow in a loser-out game. Wikel finished 2-3 to lead LW, while Josh Stenberg, Michael Petrie and Alex Shanks had the hits for the Islanders. Harrison Goonewardene pitched six solid innings, allowing a run on seven hits, striking out four, aiding MI.
College-Everett CC 4, Lower Columbia 1 (game one, doubleheader): Mount Si 2015 grad Colin Brown started the game on the hill for LCC and allowed two runs on four hits in three innings, striking out three, and he took the loss to drop to 1-2 this season for the Red Devils. Brown did not pitch the nightcap of the NWAC twinbill in Longview, won also by Everett to sweep the pair. He is from Snoqualmie.
College-Breshears brothers play one another: In a battle of brothers, older bro Dustin Breshears’ Gonzaga squad beat younger brother Carson’s Oregon team 5-4 last night in Eugene, OR. Dustin, a senior, went 1-3, while Carson, a redshirt freshman, was 1-1 with an RBI. Both players each were hit by a pitch, and both players also recorded an error defensively. The win for GU gave the Bulldogs the sweep of the two-game set; it opened Monday with a 9-7 GU win. Dustin went 1-6 in that game while Carson went 0-3. The Breshears brothers are both from North Bend. Dustin is a 2011 MSHS grad and Carson graduated in 2014.
