Good Monday morning. Time for a weekend wrap and we begin this morning on the pitch.
Cedarcrest alum Enrique Montana got a chance to play on a big stage yesterday, as his Clemson University men’s soccer squad opened the Atlantic Coast Conference (NCAA Division I) playoffs with a win.
The Tigers, from South Carolina, blasted Virginia Tech 4-1 on neutral turf at Duke University in Durham, NC, to advance in the playoffs; they will play in the semifinals on Wednesday.
Montana, a freshman this year for Clemson, came off the bench and played 15 minutes of the contest with no stats of note reported. He is a 2019 CHS grad and is from Duvall.
Time and location on the Wednesday game will be announced today.

Softball: Blast split pair with a pair of MSHS’ers chipping in in Sin City
Woodinville’s Absolute Blast 18U Dailey select softball team closed out the weekend in Las Vegas yesterday grabbing a split of two games at the Surf City Ball in the Fall event.
Blast opened with a 6-3 win over the Artesia Punishers from Vegas. A pair of Mount Si players competed in this game for AbB. Madison Bonham was 0-2 while Kate Gotts was 1-2 in the contest. The two Wildcat juniors also competed for the Blast in their finale yesterday, falling to the Everett-based Elite Diamonds Leaf 3-2. In this game, both players were 0-2 for AbB.
Gotts also competed in the three games for Blast on Saturday in the event, and went hitless in all of them.
This trip to the Ball in the Fall for the Blast replaced one that was scheduled for later this month to California. Surf City, which sponsors a Thanksgiving weekend tournament in Orange County, canceled that event due to California’s state COVID-19 restrictions and substituted the Vegas event in its place. As we told you last week, state officials are currently reviewing potential restart regulations for youth sports in California to help combat the spread of the deadly virus, but with case counts spiking, it is unclear what the time frame will be for announcing and implementing any rules. We’ll keep you posted.
With that, this concludes the fall schedule for the Blast, who now will await a spring schedule which will depend on virus restrictions in Washington, California and elsewhere.
News: MSHS postpones fall workouts
The scheduled workouts Mount Si High School had tentatively scheduled for athletes starting this week have been postponed, a casualty for the moment of the new Washington COVID-19 regulations announced yesterday by Governor Jay Inslee and which are set to be in effect today.
In a statement sent to families and obtained by the SVSJ, the school announced the postponement so it could review how the proposed setup for the camps – which were slated to be outdoors and with a ratio of five athletes to one coach all socially-distanced and with masks – would be impacted by the new rules. The new rules require all practices to be outdoors with everyone wearing a mask, so it’s likely they’ll be able to continue ahead, but likely will need additional clearance from state and local officials before proceeding.
If this changes, we’ll advise. As for Cedarcrest High School and the Riverview School District, they have not announced similar plans and are not expected to. The district has had a policy of no in-person instruction, no sports, which is not expected to change as a result of the new state orders, which are set to expire December 14 but are likely to remain through the remainder of the year. The primary rules implemented yesterday closed down indoor dining in restaurants and limited retail occupancy, including grocery stores, to 25%, and that may have factored into reports during the day yesterday on social media of runs on many different items at local stores, including meat and toilet paper.
