Some news, and a baseball score…

Before we get to our other action, we detour a bit from sports and offer up some news this morning.

If you need an example of why it is that many local cities ban the use of fireworks on July 4, look no further than Snoqualmie Ridge and an incident that happened up there last night.

Our friend of the beat, Mount Si High sports team photographer Curt Carlson, sent us this photo of a fire that took place during the dinner hour, around 5:30, at a residence on Fairway Ave. SE, near the TPC golf course. The upper portion of the home is pretty much destroyed following the blaze, which, according to KOMO, needed around 35 firefighters – consisting of mutual aid from Bellevue’s fire department, along with crews from both Snoqualmie Fire and Eastside Fire and Rescue – to put out. KOMO reports the home’s owners were not home at the time of the incident, so no injuries, but you can be sure they will be, if they haven’t already, talking to their insurance agents. Cause of the fire, according to other news reports, appears to be a bottle rocket – an illegal firework – that landed on the home’s roof and set it ablaze.

Got to be careful out there, folks. Now to the other action this morning:

Local baseball team falls in Eugene tournament
The Michael’s Toyota U18 select baseball team, with several players that have MSHS ties, fell last night in a contest at the Papa’s Pizza tournament in Eugene, OR. The Bellevue-based Michael’s fell 12-4 to Capital City Select of Salem, OR, with Wildcat senior-to-be Miles Schimchick going 0-2 for MT. Other players with local ties on Michael’s include MSHS senior-to-be Colin Brown, and recent Wildcat grad Joe Done.
