CHS hoops dominated on hardwood by Shorecrest

Cedarcrest’s boys and girls’ basketball teams both suffered losses last night to Shorecrest to wrap up the preseason non-league portion of their schedules.

Girls unable to solve tough Scot defense
The Red Wolve ladies traveled to Shoreline to meet the Wesco 2A team coached by local radio talk show host Dori Monson, and found themselves in a tough fight early, as CHS could not overcome a strong Shorecrest defense and fell 58-33.

Kennedy Howell scored 11 to lead CHS, who also had a nice 10-point effort from Megan Ditore. But, it was all about that Scot ‘D’. “Shorecrest applied a full court press from the onset and our inexperience showed again,” said Cedarcrest coach Brad Knowles by email to the SVSJ, who noted that the Red Wolves were down 20 at the half but changed things up for the third quarter and actually outscored the Scots in that frame 18-12. Shorecrest responded quickly in the fourth and closed things out.

Shorecrest boys rout Red Wolves behind junior Magaoay
It was the Drew Magaoay show for Shorecrest’s boys last night in Duvall, as the junior guard scored a game-high 30, propelling the Scots to a blowout 77-40 win over the Red Wolves at Cedarcrest High School. Brantle Harris added 10 for Shorecrest, who broke out to a 41-24 halftime edge and closed things out in the fourth outscoring Cedarcrest in that frame 20-4.

The Scot defense held the Red Wolves to no one in double figures scoring-wise; leading the way for CHS on the offensive side of things was Kyle Walsh with nine points. Athlete of the Week Chase Cardon added four to pace Cedarcrest.

Coming up
CHS meets King’s Friday. The boys are away and the girls are at home. Game times for both contests are at 6:45 p.m. King’s Schools are located in North Seattle, not far from I-5 and the N. 130th St. exit.
